Boom. And then there was something painted..

It’s been a while since I last painted. Very long actually. I can’t really say why that is but I think that instead of just gunning for it I’m actually trying to raise the bar for myself each time around now. In addition this project has been the undoubtedly most “successful” series I’ve done in terms of views and type of feedback. It’s actually been a bit overwhelming and as such I’ve kinda felt on the pressure to really deliver with the paintjobs.

Now I’m obviously not the most skilled painter but ever since the DKoK project from exactly one year ago I’ve been a lot more conscious on improving myself on all aspects and I feel I’ve taken another little step in the right direction with these.

But okay, enough ramblings and more pics right 🙂

There you have, the first installment in my Path to Glory warband finished. I thinks it’s fair to say I’m very happy so far but I’m also very curious (and almost anxious) to hear your thoughts 🙂

Lovely work. I especially enjoyed Gulvald. The one that is borderline Hentai (Decus), seems to be inspired by old He-man episodes. Love them 🙂

  2. Marcus says:

    SO COOL!!
The bird thing harshly ripping it’s way out of the flesh is beyond anything I’ve seen in warhammer! Fantastic work mate!

  3. legatho30 says:

Nice work mate ! Love the colours you use, quite unusual for Tzeentch and that makes the work ! Can’t wait for more !

  4. Great palette and transitions between the red and skin areas! Didn’t “get” the guy with the bird until I’ve seen it painted but now I think he’s my favourite! Looking forward to seeing the Doombull painted too! And excited for the Dragon Ogres!

    • Cheers mate 🙂 Thank you for pointing out the transitions as I spent most of my time working on the bruised and strained skin of the “original” being and then the fresh and vital “gifts” trying to get these to work together. I also wanted the daemon parts to give that nod to pink horrors while the purplish skin is from the blue horrors.
Ah yes, Morrimm turned out even better when painted I agree. It also makes more sense with the whole cracked egg look I wanted.
Doombull is actually basecoated and I’ve gathered the bits for the Dragon ogres as I write this so do stay tuned 🙂

Really brilliant work! Gibbemaw is looking great and I love dechrar, such a fantastic model in all aspects. Your flesh painting is so raw, I can’t wait to see the doombull!

“obviously not the most skilled painter” I think you were selling your skills a little short there in your preamble. These guys look fantastic, the paint-job has really brought them to life.
    Excellent work!

    • Well it depends on what you’re aiming for isn’t it 🙂 I think it’s basically a desire to be as good as I can become and I don’t feel I’ve reached the end yet. Which is basically a good thing because I want to do this for a long time.
Thank you though, I really appreciate your comments 🙂

  7. Wow mate. Really excited to see these painted. I don’t think you’ve given yourself enough credit on the painting. The colours work really well. Gibbermaw is my favourite. He’s all kind of wrong in the most perfect way. Great job!!! I’m looking forward to seeing lots more.

  8. Wudugast says:

I think Gibbermaw and Dechrar are my favourites but the whole warband really works well together as a cohesive whole. Sigbaal really works a lot better for me now he’s painted, there’s no longer any doubt as to who the leader is (Dechrar might disagree of course!). There’s some really original ideas come out of this project – looking forward to seeing those dragon ogres 🙂

    • Cheers mate 🙂 Aye it’s been a fun project and I think that it’s the variation that makes it all work so well together.

      • Wudugast says:

That may well be true – I know for myself the chance to make a series of unique characters appeals far more than painting the 100th identically uniformed unit filler. However knowing when to tie things together is the key to making sure it’s all cohesive – this warband may be made up of very different looking individual models but they go together as a unit and that’s why it work so well, it’s better than the sum of its parts.

      • Aye no doubt there, this is truly a blast in that regard 🙂

  9. Ruins of Arotha says:

    They are so cool!

  10. Toni says:

Absolutely amazing! You pushed boundaries with this project!
I hope the photos would do justice though. Have you looked at the iron sleet ios photography tutorial?

    • Thank you Toni, I really appreciate it and the project has been a liberating process so far 🙂
I have but more importantly I’ve upgraded my equipment (cellphone and lights) so hopefully from now on the pics will improve.

  11. greggles says:

Fantastic work. I agree with Toni. I think your modeling/painting has outstripped your current photography system. Looking forward to new setup to show off that gorgeous work!

    • Thank you 🙂 Well I obviously need to do some testing with it but I’ve got a good idea on how I’ll improve the pics overall. My now worn and torn gradient background will alt be replaced.
