Tutorial: Martian bases

Want to know how I paint my Martian bases? Look no further as it’s really simple 🙂

Step 1

I should have had a pre basecoat base but alas it wasn’t meant to be this time.
Nonetheless the pre basecoat stage is really simple. Stick a few gubbins on, then rocks and pebbles before you add sand. This creates a varied texture.

Step 2

Mix 60% dark brown and 40% dark red. Apply a good drop of water to thin the mixture. This is so the paint seeps in everywhere.

Step 3

Drybrush very light with a mid brown tone. Make sure the previous layer shows.

Step 4

Now drybrush with a strong orange. First very light then a bit heavier to pick out the details. Make sure you keep it all smooth.

Step 5
Now it’s time to paint the details that’s not supposed to be red sand. In addition paint the basering.

And there you have it. A very simple method creating very effective bases that will make a great contrast for your miniatures.
